How to Ride the Bus

    Check the destination display on the bus front, rear, or beside the door.

    The destination is displayed on the front and rear of the bus and besides the entrance door. Be sure to check it when getting on.

  2. Step2

    Get on the bus using the door in the middle (at the rear).

    • Shimatetsu Buses are "get on in back, get off in front" buses.
      *There are also buses with only 1 door.
    • There is an interphone located near the entrance door. Please use it if you have any questions when getting on the bus.
      *This may not be available depending on the bus.

  3. Step3

    Take a boarding voucher, or touch your smart card to the machine.
    Shimatetsu Bus fares are paid when you get off.

    If using something other than a Nagasaki smart card, such as cash, a ticket, or paper commuter pass, be sure to take a boarding voucher when getting on the bus.

    If you have a Nagasaki smart card, touch it to the card reader when getting on the bus.

  4. Step4

    Sit in an empty seat.

    If there are no empty seats, be sure to grab hold of a strap or pole. It is very dangerous to change seats while the bus is in motion. Please do so while the bus is stopped.

    We ask that you give the priority seating to those who need it, including the elderly, the disabled, and expectant mothers.

  5. Step5

    Push the Stop button.

    When the bus stop you want to get off at is announced, press a Stop button near you.
    *The next bus stop is also displayed on the "fare table" at the front of the bus. There will also be an audio announcement. Listen for it.

    *Moving on the bus is dangerous. Only stand up from your seat once the bus has come to a complete stop.

    Check your fare on the fare table.

    The fare table is located near the front of the bus. The amount displayed in the section with the same number as your boarding voucher is your fare.
    The fares displayed are adult fares. Child fares are half of that. (Fractions are rounded up in units of \10.)

  7. Step7

    When getting off the bus, pay your fare at the fare box in the front.

    When getting off the bus, pay your fare at the fare box located near the front exit door (next to the driver's seat).

    • If using cash, a ticket, or a coupon ticket

      Put your cash or ticket, etc., into the slot together with your boarding voucher. Please be aware the machine does not provide change.

    • If using a Nagasaki smart card

      Touch your card to the card reader.

    Requests to our customers

    • Please prepare change in advance to use the bus smoothly.
      (Please be aware that you cannot change cash other than \1,000 bills in the bus.)
    • If using the Nagasaki smart card, be sure to add money to it in advance.
      *If you would like to add money to a smart card, please ask the driver while the bus is stopped.
    • For elementary school students, please tell the driver that you are an elementary school student before paying the money or touching your Nagasaki smart card to the reader.

    About money changing

    To change money, please use the money changer attached to the fare box at the front.

    • *The amounts that can be changed in the bus are: \1,000, \500, \100, and \50.
    • *\10,000 and \5,000 bills cannot be changed.
    • *It is very dangerous to change seats or change money while the bus is in motion. Please refrain from doing so.
    • *Please change money while the bus is stopped.
  8. Step8

    Watch your step as you get off the bus using the front exit door.

    Be sure to watch your step.
    When getting off the bus, check the safety of the surroundings.
    Be sure to check your belongings to make sure you have everything.
